The Vilas Neighborhood Association Council is seeking new members

The VNA is a volunteer organization comprised of neighborhood residents and led by an eight-member council.  Council members serve two-year terms, with half the members being elected each year. An annual meeting and election is coming up on November 16, and we’re seeking candidates for four seats.

The council meets monthly (for now, by Zoom), normally on the fourth Wednesday evening of the month. With the help of committees, the council

·         Keeps neighbors informed of local issues via the neighborhood listserv, newsletter, and meetings

·         Makes recommendations to the city government on zoning, alcohol licenses, proposed development in the neighborhood, Vilas Park, city plans and policies affecting our neighborhood, and other topics of neighborhood interest;

·         Represents the neighborhood in planning processes such as the Vilas Park and the Vilas Zoo master plans

·         Communicates with the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Edgewood, the Police Department, and the zoo

·         Plans and participates in the District 13 Alliance and other service projects

·         Hosts social events:  Halloween party and trick-or-treat, holiday party, summer block party, 4th of July parade, book club

If you’re interested in serving on the VNA Council, know of someone who’d be a good council member and might be interested, or have questions, please email a member of the Nominating Committee:

The election will be by absentee voting, due to the pandemic, starting 10 days before November 16.

Notice of the election, including information about the election date, place, time, and procedures, together with information about the final slate of candidates, will be made widely available via multiple means no less than 10 days before the election period begins.
